Vengeance of Eternal Fire

The best modern bestial black metal album

I only discovered ASM a couple months ago. They were doing the first part of a 1349 gig in Montréal, and I was fucking stunned when I heard them. The brutality of this band is incredible.

The main aspect I love about this band is that even if they play bestial black metal, you can hear everything single notes, drum beat and vocals. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Blasphemy, Conqueror and things like that. But sometimes bestial black tends to be so noisy that it becomes boring after 30 minutes of listen. This band doesn't have this problem. I never got bored during one of their album, and Vengeance of Eternal Fire by far their best one IMO.

A point we can't pass by is the quality of the riffs. The sound of the guitar and the extremely brutal riff are like a fucking spinning back kick in the liver. One song especially give me that feeling : "Vanquishing Spirit". I remember earring it for the first time live at their gig when I didn't knew them and I was STUNNED. The level of brutality here is so intense, it is mindblowing. I could literally benchpress Lizzo while listening to that song. Ryan Zell, the guitarist, is also adding a couple of little pick sliding effect (not sure how to say that in English sorry, I guess you understand) during some songs and that give a really nice touch to the guitar parts. I love it.

Also, the vocals are insane. Scott Edward Bartley has a perfect vocal technique for bestial black and I find his vocals absolutely stunning, especially in live. Not much to say here, they are just perfect for this type of black metal.

Finally, the drums. I don't know really know how to say this, but there's a particular sound to the drums that I love. It's brutal, and you can hear every single beat, which I found awesome for a bestial black metal album again. It also really impress me as a guy who've never touch a drum that someone can play so fast while doing vocals. Insane work.

So, to conclude, I personally believe this is totally in the top 3 best album of 2024, and definitely the best bestial black metal album in a very long time. Maybe even the best of all time, but I have difficulty to let Fallen Angel of Doom go away haha. No weak song and brutal from A to Z. Very near perfection.

I really recommend you this album if you train in any kind of way. I am personally and amateur MMA fighter, and it was my official soundtrack while doing bag, running, lifting weights or any stuff like this this year. It boost you at another level. Big congratulations to the band for this banger. Hope to see another one like that in the years to come.
