BM music with a message?
I'm in search of new, raw, unpolished, and simplistic DIY-style atmospheric music, preferably from one-man bands, that carries a profound message. To clarify, I'm not referring to bands like Xasthur, Leviathan, or Sterbend, even though they undeniably excel in their own right. What I seek is the solemn style reminiscent of Burzum.
If you delve deeper into Burzum's discography beyond the commonly known tracks from 'Filosofem,' you'll discern unmistakable anti-Christian and pagan narratives. These themes have been intricately woven into the very fabric of black metal since its inception, often revolving around nature, tradition, and closely aligning with right-wing ideologies.
Despite black metal predominantly focusing on the music and not being a cultural movement like punk or DSBM, it still reflects our predominantly right-wing culture. Anyone claiming otherwise may be disregarding the evidence, as merely "listening to the lyrics" (and perhaps interviews) can reveal that there is more to their ignorant and narrow narrative. Gorgoroth and a few others stand as the lone bands that truly challenge their audience, with Gaahl courageously calling out those who overlook the lyrical content. Burzum, too, played a pivotal role in establishing a "seriousness" in the music with his approach. Remember the motto "No Mosh, No Core, No Trends, No Fun"? It's a bold statement against heavy metal. BLACK METAL IS A REJECTION OF METAL, much like how punk is a rejection of rock. This is the style I am currently pursuing, with the minimalistic and atmospheric qualities that make Burzum so unique, ironically making it one of the most effective means of conveying a message
P.S. Just to be clear, I have no interest in any straight up NSBM content whichis a minority within the genre. Nationalist-patriotic content is acceptable, though, within the boundaries of responsible expression ofc ;) .
