1 Review for 'Inquisition - Veneration of Medieval Mysticism and Cosmological Violence''Veneration of Medieval Mysticism and Cosmological Violence'
A good effort coming from the veteran Colombian band
Inquisition is a band I've almost never been disappointed with. Almost all of their album are great, and even if this one is far from being in their best ones, it is actually great too.
Of course, the main point of the inquisition greatness is the riff they are producing. Always great, and an awesome guitar tone. The only problem I have with the ones on this album is that they are a bit similar on some songs, like in "Witchcraft Within a Gothic Tomb", "Crown of Light and Constellation" and at the beginning of "A Hidden Ceremony of Blood and Flesh". But still, most of them are awesome. My favourite song for the riffs is definitely "Secrets from the Wizard Forest of Forbidden Knowledge". Awesome guitar work on this one.
My second favourite aspect of this album are the vocals of Dagon. I know a lot of people dislike them, I personally love them. They are really great on this album. Very similar to the ones of Abbath from Immortal, and a bit less frog-like than before.
The drums are kind of basic, not much to say on that. Always love drum sound of this band though, I don't know why but they feel satisfying to me. They are also very clear and you can hear every beat, which is an important aspect for me.
They seems to have change their path a bit, which is not necessarily a bad thing. They seems to have chose a more melodic and emotion full type of black metal that you can especially hear on "Memories Within an Empty Castle in Ruins", which is one of my favourite song on this album. "Primordial Philosophy and Pure Spirit" is also a song in which you can hear this more melodic approach from the band. Not what I would have expected in an Inquisition album, but still very good. Some of the songs even sound medieval, like in "Pathway of Light is a Pathway to Fire" for example. It sounds very similar to some Obsequiae, which I like a lot.
But, like I've said before, some of the guitar parts are a bit repetitive, and that's a point I am always very sensible to. Especially some of the lead parts. It is not really good to feel that way with a 45 minutes. But still a great album that I would recommend people to listen, that is in my top 10 album of the year. Cheers!
