95%An insight into the future of second wave black metal
This EP is truly special. It was a step towards the new sound with dirty, lo-fi production and shrieky, light vocals. Mayhem marketed the album long before it was even produced, and when it released, the underground was in shock. In my opinion it has truly held up to date. It is a bit slower than the typical fast tremolo picking of black metal, but that makes it an exiting listen. The lyrics are a bit less complex in comparison to later work, which makes some of it cringeworthy, although there is rarely a problem with lyrics being easy to hear. The best aspect of the EP is definitely the sound. With fantastic riffs, great vocals and an overall unmastered sound, making it atmospheric and authentic
