Mutiilation - Remains of a Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul review by Warblackmetal666

A raw Black Metal album that I find pretty good, the best of this cool band from France, in my opinion. Let's talk about the good points and the bad points.

The good point of this album is the insane horror and depressive atmosphere, the raw production, the raw guitar riffs that are full of depressive emotion, and the DSBM-style screams that make this album even better.

Another strong point are the drums, perfectly adjusted to the rest of the music and, for me, it's an important point because sometimes the musician leaves the drums too loud, and it becomes really disturbing. But the best point of this album is the insanely good atmosphere, which gives it all of its charm. A really great job by Meyhna'ch.

There is not a lot of bad points on this album, but they are really bad, in my opinion. The biggest is the repetitive drum beat. I know that we are listening to Black Metal, and that drums are often almost the same throughout an entire album, but sometimes it's too much.

The second point is the length of some songs. Like I often say, at the end, a long album equals a boring album, and it's the almost same thing for songs. The biggest example here is the fourth track, ''Through the Funeral Maelstrom of Evil''. Too long, it's repetitive, and so it becomes boring. I like long songs, when they are progressive, and when it's not the same thing throughout the entire song, like on Fluisteraars songs for example.

To conclude, I really recommend this album to the raw Black Metal fan who likes things such as "The Suns Journey Through The Night", "Departure Chandelier", "Akitsa", or any other awesome band like this. Enjoy!

Truly groundbreaking on a level only slightly less than that of the works of the Norwegian bands. While I personally object to terms like "depressive" black metal that are often attributed to this album because of what I see as irrelevant/unnecessary qualifiers, this is nonetheless one of the most genuinely *anguished*-sounding albums I've ever heard.
