nargaroth's best album and my favourite album by far

one of the greatest metal albums ever made

Very overrated album which was almost unknown in the scene until the year 2000 or later. Despite Kanwulf's wishes this had little to no influence on the genre, and given his history of egregious lies I don't think it's worthy of inclusion in such lists.

I can´t imagine this being any better. landmark black metal.

perfect right down to the smallest of details

Pure Black Metal Art from Germany!!

As one commenter already mention, this album was never considered a classic, achieved no notoriety, and was unheard of until well after 2000.

During the early 2000s certain bands would make their rounds on the internet message boards. Each time a band got in the spotlight, their albums, demos, rehearsals would all go for exorbitant amounts on Ebay, Probably around 2001, with the release off Black Metal ist Krieg, Nargaroth finally got its 15 minutes of fame. Herbstleyd enjoyed a brief "kult" status around this time, but the scene's enthusiasm for this band and album did not last. I am surprised to see it placed so high on this list. It's certainly undeserved, and not representative of the collective opinions of black metal fans.

Good but overrated

Very essential black metal album from my home country and one of my faves!
The feel and atmosphere is all what classic black metal is about. The pain, anger, sorrow and longing is real.

I still can't fathom how such thoroughly average black metal ranks so high on this site. Maybe it's tainted for me by Kanwulf's absolute dearth of integrity, and boy oh boy, what a dearth, but really?

Searching by country, looking at Germany, does this really deserve to sit side by side with Rain Upon The Impure? Or Throne Of The Depths for that matter?

The Ruins Of Beverast in particular wipe the floor with this band, as do Lunar Aurora, as do a lot of bands on Germany's first page.

This just feels weird. The guy's a poser. I hate the use of that word, but I can't think of a kinder synonym.

This album is a genuine classic; whether or not people love or hate Kanwulf or Nargaroth in general; everyone seems to enjoy this album. I have only talked to a few people who hate this record.

Not deserving of such a high ranking, particularly when you consider it outranks the albums / artists it is imitating by 40-50 places! I understand ranking is subjective, but this is just plain blasphemous- and not in the good, black metal way.

this is a favorite full length of mine for sure... but this high ranked???
