The new album, titled "Vanagandr", is set to be released on the 27th of August, and will mark their first release in over eight years.
Swedish Black Metal vikings Thyrfing will be releasing their next full-length album on the 27th of August through Despotz Records. The new album, which is titled "Vanagandr", will be the band's first release of any kind since 2013, and they recently revealed the details for the tracklist, cover art and available formats via their Facebook page.
The complete tracklist for the new album is as follows:
- Döp Dem i Eld
- Undergångens Länkar
- Rötter
- Fredlös
- Järnhand
- Håg och Minne
- Träldomsord
- Jordafärd
The band already made music videos for the tracks "Döp Dem i Eld" and "Jordafärd", which were uploaded to the label's YouTube channel in March and May respectively:
Thyrfing was formed in 1995 in Stockholm, and their lyrical themes and aesthetics are strongly rooted in Nordic mythology. The band's name itself refers to a legendary sword, central to the Tyrfing Cycle of poems, and is visible in the band's logo. "Vanagandr" is an alternative name for the apocalyptic wolf Fenrir, and is depicted in the album's cover art, which was designed by prolific Swedish artist Niklas Sundin of Dark Tranquility fame:
The album was co-produced and co-engineered by Jakob Herrmann at Top Floor Studios, and will be available in the following formats:
- Digital
- 6-panel Digipak CD with 20-page booklet
- Gatefold 12" vinyl LP (1st pressing) - 180g black vinyl with insert sheet (limted to 500)
- Gatefold 12" vinyl LP (2nd pressing) - 180g marbled vinyl (black/grey) with insert sheet
Pre-orders are already underway via the Despotz Records website here, and there are also bundles available including shirts and patches. Alternatively, you can check the usual array of digital pre-orders here.
