British Gothic Black Metal pioneers United Kingdom Cradle of Filth have just revealed the details for their next full-length album, which will be titled "Existence Is Futile" and is due for release on the 22nd of October through German label Nuclear Blast.

Together with the announcement, a music video for the third track off the new album, "Crawling King Chaos", was also revealed, directed by Vicente Cordero. Check it out below:

"Existence Is Futile" will mark the band's 13th full-length in a career spanning over 30 years, and will be their third album to be released through Nuclear Blast. The band commented briefly:

The gates of hell have finally opened up again, to reveal Cradle of Filth's 13th manifesto, recorded during the lockdown periods of 2020 and entitled "Existence Is Futile".

Pieced together in isolation, at Grindstone Studios in Suffolk with studio guru Scott Atkins, the album is pitch-black, perverse and at times absurdly brutal, following a nihilistic concept both evocative and relentless.

The complete tracklist for "Existence Is Futile" is as follows:

  1. The Fate of the World on Our Shoulders
  2. Existential Terror
  3. Necromantic Fantasies
  4. Crawling King Chaos
  5. Here Comes a Candle... (Infernal Lullaby)
  6. Black Smoke Curling from the Lips of War
  7. Discourse Between a Man and His Soul
  8. The Dying of the Embers
  9. Ashen Mortality
  10. How Many Tears to Nurture a Rose?
  11. Suffer Our Dominion
  12. Us, Dark, Invincible
  13. Sisters of the Mist (Bonus track)
  14. Unleash the Hellion (Bonus track)

Here's a closer look at the new cover art, which was designed by Latvian artist Arthur Berzinsh, who also collaborated with Cradle of Filth on their previous two full-length albums:

In case you are wondering what the fuck is going on there, the design is a reference to the "Hell" panel of Hieronymus Bosch's "The Garden of Earthly Delights" triptych, where the Prince of Hell is depicted consuming the souls of the corrupt and promptly shitting them out again into a pit below:

I think signing to Nuclear Blast was the best decision Cradle of Filth made in the last 20 years, there's a notable increase in songwriting quality and inspiration from "Hammer of the Witches" onward.

Having a good label has such a huge impact on a band's success, especially mainstream bands of this caliber, but it's easy to forget about that aspect and attribute success/failure entirely to the band itself. Nuclear Blast seem to be doing things right in recent years. Dimmu Borgir's latest album was pretty decent, I'm wondering if Satyricon would also benefit from joining Nuclear Blast... they've been out of form for way too long.

Watain just signed to Nuclear Blast.
