BLACK METAL NEWS & REVIEWS
Newsletter #38 - January 14th, 2022
Greetings, and happy new year to all.

I hope everyone has been keeping warm and busy over the last few months, and that you are all looking forward to a 2022 with what should hopefully be a reduced amount of bullshit.

I'll start off by giving a shoutout to Snow Wolf Records from Kentucky, who have recently released a compilation album in order to raise funds for victims of the record-breaking tornadoes that tore through the region between the 10th-11th of December, leaving over 90 people dead and over 1,000 families homeless. If you're interested, there's a link with more info below.

Other than that, our news coverage paused for a while over the winter, but in the last weeks there's been some new albums announced from the likes of Dark Funeral, Absu, Nokturnal Mortum, Vulcano and Abbath, with a couple of new music videos from them as well.

The website itself has had a few minor changes, namely a load of albums had their cover art replaced with larger, higher quality versions (big thanks to PeaceThroughAnarchy and Boondocksaint303 for contributing towards this), and also New Users / Regular Users can now post news items should they ever want to.

That's all for the time being, now it's time for the summary of recent news and reviews.

Regards,
Imperator

Archgoat - Worship the Eternal Darkness review by Warblackmetal666

Review for Archgoat - Worship the Eternal Darkness

90%

4.5 star rating

Archgoat is one of those band who were pretty good when they begin their career, but have become more and more talented with the time. Now, in my opinion, Archgoat is by far the best black/death band and clearly one of the greatest too. All their album are fucking great and are all better than the previous ones. Let's review this this Finnish pearl.

So, let's start with the good point. Firstly, this album is more black metal than the other, ...

Review for Lamp of Murmuur - Submission and Slavery

91%

4.6 star rating

Lamp of Murmuur is one of the greatest and most consistent bands of recent years which always manages to amaze me with every new release! As I mentioned in my Revenant Marquis review, I discovered this band (and this new wave of Raw BM!) with the amazing 2020 split album. Since then, every subsequent album, EP, demo is an improvement over the previous release! This, their latest full-length, came as a massive surprise for me. This is one of the ...

Nihil Verum Nisi Mors productions (A.K.A NVNM) is just 4-5 years old right now, but in this short period of time they have released tons of great old school material without any weak moments! Releases from bands such as The Gauntlet or DSS are just a few to namedrop. Damnation Lust is another consistent name to hail from that old school NJ scene.

Their sound can be best described as old school Primitive / Lo-Fi Blackened Death Metal, ...

Not all demo recordings end up being rawer than the studio version!

Review for Selvhat - Den Svarte Tid

90%

4.5 star rating

In the past, I have stated my obsession with this band's 2008 studio album. When I first got into that album, I was so blown away with how much this guy has achieved with so little. I would have ranked that album as the best DSBM / Melancholic BM album (which, on this website at least, I DID!), but I committed a fatal error while listening to that album; I ignored all of the demos and EPs that came before it since I thought that that album was ...

I wonder, what am I talking about at the beginning of this review? Well then I am going to make a small introduction regarding the founding member of Mantra Anguis, the main band vocalist called XIII is none other than the formerly named Sargathanas, and I say above because before thinking about forming the band, this musician already had a journey in the underworld of Black Metal as a composer, guitarist and especially vocalist of some Black ...

Ánimas Defunctorum are a solo project from Columbia that plays a very raw and depressive form of Black Metal, and this is a review of his self-titled 2021 album, which was released by Odio Eterno Productions.

Dark yet melodic riffing starts off the album while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length, along with all of the vocals being high ...
