1 Review for 'Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestite''Celestite'
Ambient Black
Celestite is the fifth full length album from Wolves In The Throne Room and is unique to their excellent catalogue. It's a fifty minute dark ambient soundscape. No singing, no blast beats, no guitars. While some people may consider this monotonous or boring I decided to give it a fair chance because Wolves In The Throne Room deserve nothing less. They're place in USBM is well established and well earned. This album was maligned by fans upon it's 2014 release and is still rated low amongst they're other six LP's. But when a band sets the bar for their music with their first two albums so high it's easy for subsequent releases to fall short. Honestly I was not overcome upon first spin but after a few listens, after I fully immersed myself in the music I truly enjoyed Celestite. Each song is well crafted and the whole album flows beautifully. I would be hard pressed to pick a stand out track but album closer Sleeping Golden Storm is superb. There was always ambient music flowing through Wolves In The Throne Room albums so a complete album of said music shouldn't surprise fans of the band. Give it a few spins and let it transport you. Much like Timewave Zero by Blood Incantation this album will split the fans into love it, hate it. Most bands play it safe and don't attempt to be daring. Those who do deserve to be heard.
